Use words to get your website visitors to take action
Good texts on a website are not just nice to read — they have a purpose. They ensure that visitors stay, become interested and ultimately take action. Whether that is by filling out a form, buying something, making an appointment or simply clicking further.
Yet many entrepreneurs and web builders struggle with writing powerful content. Sentences are often too long, too technical or too boring. And the call-to-action (CTA)? It is often unclear or even missing altogether.
In this article you will discover how to easily write texts that are not only read, but also really convert. Texts that are clear, human and attractive — and give your visitors that little push at the right moment to take action.
1. Write for people, not machines
Although search engines are important, you should write for the visitor first and foremost. Avoid technical jargon or long sentences with lots of adjectives. Ask yourself this question:
“Would I explain this to a customer in a conversation?”
Therefore, choose:
- Short sentences
- Regular words
- Clear examples
- A human tone

“Our services are characterized by flexibility and a solution-oriented approach.”
→ “We think along with you and always look for a smart solution.”
2. Start with what the visitor wants
Visitors want to know first: “What’s in it for me?” So start with a benefit, a question or a provocative statement.
Example:
“Are you tired of wasting time on administration? We’ll take care of it.”
3. Write actively, not passively
Passive sentences are often vague and distant. Active sentences are direct, lively and encourage action.
Example:
“We will contact you.”
→ “We will call you within one business day.”
4. Use powerful headings
Visitors often scan a page first. Good headings:
- Trigger curiosity
- Name an advantage or problem
- Give direction to the text

“Why your customers drop out (and how to solve that)”

5. Provide structure
Break your content into:
- Paragraphs of maximum 4 sentences
- Clear subheadings
- Lists (like this 😉)
- Bold words to emphasize
6. Write with a Purpose
Every page, paragraph, and sentence should have a purpose. What do you want the reader to do? Provide a clear call to action (CTA), such as:
- “Request a quote”
- “Check out our products”
- “Schedule a free consultation”
7. Appeal to emotions
Online decisions are often emotional. Identify relatable problems or desires.
Examples:
“Don’t let your competitors steal your customers.”
“Imagine: new customers every month without having to call yourself.”
8. Show proof
Be credible. Use:
- Customer reviews
- Numbers
- Real-world examples
Example:
“98% of our customers give us an 8 or higher.”
9. End strong
Conclude with a concrete step. Summarize briefly and provide a CTA.
Example:
“Do you also want less stress and more clarity? Schedule a free consultation today.”
10. Writing is deleting
The best texts are often short. Write first, then delete:
- Remove unnecessary words
- Shorten sentences
- Choose simplicity
Example:
“It is important to ensure that clear communication takes place.”
→ “Good communication is important.”

Writing good web texts is not magic. It is practicing, rewriting and testing. Ask feedback from others, read your texts out loud, and keep asking yourself: “Would I click on this?”
